Welcome
to the Southbound Model Railroaders' home on
the Web! Thank you for stopping by to visit. We
are a group of model railroading enthusiasts in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Our group is made up of
people from all walks of life who are brought together by a
common love of railroading. Our layout is based on an
era when steam and Diesel ran the rails together.
Prototypes used for this era are the Southern Railway
and Norfolk & Western during the 1950's.
Now going into its 37th year, the
Southbound Model Railroaders (SMR) present
the largest, fully sceniced HO-gauge layout in the Triad.
The layout is powered by the latest technological advance in
wireless digital Command Control (DCC). The layout
size is about 35'x30', with more than 2700 feet of track,
and several miles of wiring. SMR simulates a portion
of the 1958 era Southern Railway and Norfolk &
Western locales of North Carolina, Virginia, and West
Virginia. The Club operates about 63 engines and 400
revenue cars.
SMR meets every Tuesday evening at 7:00
PM. A business meeting is held the 3rd Tuesday of each
month. Visitors are welcome on the second and
fourth Tuesdays.
